Significant Other, 2008. Plexiglas, steel, sod, dirt, fabric, stones, paint, wood.

This site-specific piece was conceived to address the history of the Legion of Honor museum in San Francisco as well as museum practices.   Significant Other responds to the discovery of the remains from the Golden Gate Cemetery, c.1868-1898, lying underneath the museum and its grounds during the seismic retrofitting and expansion of the museum in the 1990s.  I am fascinated by the particularities of museum collections and museums' missions, while at the same time intrigued by history that is often buried or hidden away sometimes right under our feet.  Those things exposed or revealed bring to mind other truths, many of which are hidden below the surface.  In other words, what is not seen is as significant to our understanding as what is seen.
